I write today this message to straighten out the idea hopefully of what Jesus means when He says to pick up your cross and follow Him. What most people believe about this is the same as the saying, which is not in Bible, we all have our cross to bear. This is the idea that everyone has a cross or burden to carry. For some it may be an illness or physical condition, or poverty, or bad marriage, or hard job. Something difficult and unpleasant. This I dont believe is what Jesus meant. Think like this: what is the cross in Jesus time? It is an instrument of torture and execution. To pick up your cross in Jesus day meant you were going to die on it. You did not just pick it up and carry it. You picked it up as Jesus did and carry it to the place where you were killed on it. When Jesus tells us to pick up our cross and follow Him, it means follow Him to death. Are you willing to do this? If we are not, we are not worthy to be called Christian.
