I wrote: Charles Dickens, Terry Pratchett, Arthur Conan Doyle.... Books filled with excitement, emotion and lots of characters. I read to them, and use Audible books extensively. We stop for discussion points. The parrots do pick up and practice words and intonations and also recognise words they know and use - reacting negatively and commenting on terms they dislike, and sometimes echoing or cheering for the word parrot such as when Ebenezer Scrooge speaks it to the Ghost of Christmas past. They respond if Im reading that or if a recording is played, and definitely know it is coming. We have read it together many times. They also say Alright!, Yummy or Mmm-mmm when food names or even the words food, eat or dinner are read by narrators. And of course Hello in response to Hello, a knock or a doorbell. I am a Ph.D. holding scientist. There is no doubt in my mind that they comprehend much more than has been quantified.
