I wrote a letter to Governor McCrory today. Its an issue thats too important to not say something. Heres the website where I sent my two cents: governor.state.nc.us/contact . Heres my message: Governor McCrory, No child deserves to feel afraid to go to school. I am writing to ask that you consider using your influence to protect North Carolina students who are bullied because they are perceived as gay, lesbian, or transgendered. Your appointment of Buddy Collins to the N.C. Task Force for Safer Schools sends the message that it is acceptable to bully students who are gay. This is dangerous for our society. When harassment is allowed to go on, and when authorities fail to control acts of violence, that is how we breed the type of animosity that leads to school shootings. It is necessary to the safety of our communities that children are educated in an environment that is free from violence. Please reconsider your appointment of a person who has a history of preventing the development of safe policies and safe neighborhoods. Thank you. Aviana Alam
