I wrote a long comment rg my seeing a live recording from The West End of Billy Elliot - the musical with my one of my closest friends, Geoffrey Wynkoop, on Tuesday night. It showed throughout the U.S. and various movie theaters in Europe on November 12th, 15th and the 18th. This link mentions it will be available on Blu-ray and DVD on Nov. 24th. Amazon doesnt show any mention of it although I hope it does become available. Any of my close friends know that Im pretty much addicted to theatre especially when it comes to musicals. There are theatre productions based off of movies, but, at least to me it seems that few movies are based off of theatre productions. The ones that are are IMHO not very good, and Im always left scratching my head why more are simply not filmed at the theatre and then be made available to see by the movie going public... It would be amazing to see a trend of live theatre productions taped and either shown live or later shown in movie theaters. No doubt Into the Woods will do wonders at the box office. Heck, the fact that Disney is involved (as it seems to be in numerous Broadway shows) will no doubt prove to be successful. Personally, Id rather watch my DVD of a live performance of the theatrical show.
