I wrote a piece on the records that make up The Avalanches Since I Left You for the Vivid LIVE site. Those records are gems. Heres a sample of the geeky details in the piece: The first thing I noticed when I heard this track was that this is the main melody from Since I Left You. And secondly, there are no isolated vocals in this song; it is a full lush band arrangement from start to finish. This meaning that the beautiful lead vocal in the Avalanches Since I Left You still has the drums/strings/glockenspiel/bass/guitar in that same sound. Normally when you sample vocals you use something that is an isolated acapella, or something with minimal sounds around it, but they literally somehow transplanted the vocals (with the instruments) so beautifully into there own instrumental, and that clash is one of the elements that gives the song that unexplainable feeling. You realize that the anatomy of the song is made up of many different drummers, string sections, guitarists and vocalists all clashing in a beautiful, effortless ocean of joy. Truly imaginative sampling.
