I wrote here that id tour Machakos County on a spirit of adventure, but largely to deeply examine the truth behind Dr. Alfred Mutuas famous road. I left Nairobi towards Thika then Kithimani where the new 33Km stretch commences. I had equipped myself with some unlimited luxury of time and sufficient fuel for the trip. At Kithimani, the mission to scrutinize the authenticity of Mutuas confessions began. I drove past Kabaa - Mumbuni - Bishop Ndingi - Mwala Township - and then to Makutano ma Mwala, where the apparent new road ends. I was later to return to Nairobi via Machakos town. My most sincere conclusion about the new road is simple and concise; Mutua is just but a shameless and pathological conman. He should be in jail like yesterday. But a good psychiatrist is necessary beforehand. Yes, the surface of the road is black in color, but any further truth about it is absolutely unspeakable - pure hot air!. At a speed of 20Km/h, i could not place my phone at the dashboard on my Four-Wheel-Drive car due to the roughness and ruggedness of the terrain. A galaxy of potholes, some being filled-in, are conspicuously characteristic on this new 33km stretch that he proudly attaches to his transformative legacy dubbed maendeleo chap chap. Actually, there is no road to write home about - corrugation is an understatement. Along the way, i opted to stop at the road-side shadow of a market known as Bishop Ndingi to gather some information about this project. A cheerful gentleman introduced me to a nearby senior engineer who works for one of the construction companies that had a privilege of making this road a reality. I know i can be provocatively inquisitive sometimes. I knew i was pestering him with unnecessary questions but, eventually, he revealed to me how authoritarian and dictatorial the Governor is. With enormous fears so evident on his face, he explained to me how Mutua was entirely, the sole Civil Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, Architectural Engineer, Clerk of Works, Supervisor, etc, during the construction of this road. But even as our dialogue climaxed, about 12 new police cars and 11 ambulances that the Governor bought recently had passed there with sirens of loud and deafening crescendo. They are going and coming from Machakos for fueling, a happy trader who happens to be Mutuas fanatic told us. Matter of fact, i have toured many parts of this country but, i have never seen a region so poor like Machakos County. It is only comparable to Homabay and Kisumu Counties. People here are pathetically hungry and emaciated. People here live in incomprehensibly deplorable shacks. I didnt see a single Health Center along the 33km stretch. Schools are only three if not two. No water, No power, No hope to these needy people, No nothing!! ....................................
