I wrote in protest of the Alabama State Parks plan to build a convention center and hotel on the beach several months ago. Recently a federal lawsuit was filed by the Gulf Restoration Network to block the project. The funds for the project are supposed to come from the BP Deepwater Horizon payout...money SUPPOSED to be spent for restoring the natural resources of the states that were affected. No matter how you look at it, its just wrong to use funds designated to restore our states natural resources to DESTROY dunes and other precious habitat. I am ashamed of our state government for daring to be so ridiculous. Not only is it an assault on our coast, its embarrassing to see these sorts of shenanigans happening. The state claims it will be renovating the parks beaches....how stupid do they think we are?? I guess pretty darn stupid. In all fairness, its the governor and his cronies leading the way and the park is just a means to an end...the end being more money. Always the bottom line when it comes to destroying nature. One last bit of cheer....The spokesman for the state said, Its a great environmental spectacle and unique place, but you cant go and visit it unless youve got a place where you stay near it. The man must be on crack or something....has he not seen the wall of condos that hovers over each boundary of the state park???
