I wrote this Ode for my Lhasa Apso Chester after he went to the Rainbow Bridge several years ago and thought I would share with you all. ODE TO CHESTER All encompassing silence no stirring from below, Upon my awakening from broken slumber, No padded feet demanding my attention, The door to my haven of flowers remains closed, No sound of you coming from its surroundings, Greeting me with a welcoming bark, My little home that once was so full of warmth, Returning from evenings spent with friends, Has become an empty shell where I dread to walk, The void left from the loss of you my beloved four-legged friend, Grows daily with no end in sight, Then suddenly a memory will flood into my mind, And slowly a smile will cross my heartbroken face, To wipe away the free flowing tears that fall down my cheeks, As you my furry little companion remind me of all the years of joy, And unconditional love that you bestowed upon me, Then the sky begins to glow a little brighter, As I remember all the wonderful moments that we shared, And another day becomes a bearable proposition, Thank you my darling Chester for the happiness you gave to me, When in my saddest hours you gave me a reason to be, I will always miss you and hold you closely to my heart, Your memory will never die, just become more bearable to hold, God bless you little one, may you rest in peace, And enjoy the freedom to run again in your lovely new home, That you will have found somewhere not far from me, And never doubt the depth of my love for you, Goodnight my little soul mate, I love you with all my heart, Thank you for coming into my life and teaching me how to love.
