I wrote this a couple of weeks ago while I was in kind of a contemplative mood one day. I was saying my gratefuls to my HP, and I decided to try to put it to music, without getting to preachy (i hope) about it. The main idea was to try to speak to my own personal thought process, but to keep it simple at the same time. As usual, please let me know what you think! Any feedback is greatly appreciated. BETTER THAN YESTERDAY BY: SHAWN M. STER V1 Another early morning, cup of coffee and a smoke I step outside to the crispy autumn air I look around at the birds and trees, the sun is coming up And I’m wondering what today is going to share V2 A little introspection as I reach out to stretch I always feel a few new aches and pains I playback through a lifetime that led me where I stand To tell the truth, I really can’t complain V3 I take a moment to be grateful for the opportunities And the people that have come into my life All the bridges I have burned, and mistakes that I have made All blend together to help me get it right C I’m not asking to move mountains Or to tackle all the demons that are getting in my way All I need is to be a little better A little better than I was yesterday And I’m not looking for an act of congress Or to change the laws of physics, or to cause a tidal wave All I need is to be a little better A little better than yesterday – ay – ay, ay – ay – ay, ay – ay – ay A little better than yesterday V4 Will I take the time today for a random act of kindness To help someone that I have never met Or to truly say I’m sorry for the times when I’ve been wrong To clear the air and try to make amends V5 Will I rise to the occasion and go out of my way If I were called to help a friend in need Or to always say I love you to the ones that matter most Because the time we have is never guaranteed B Now I’m a pretty simple guy, you know I don’t need much Everything will turn out with a little work and a little luck The best that I can hope for as I sit and close my eyes Is my health and my ability, and my willingness to try Chorus
