I wrote this elsewhere but figured it might be beneficial information for some of my friends on FB, so I am posting them here. We know that Skype routinely spies on data contained in your computer and uploads this information. Having Skype on your computer should be regarded as a security threat, and yet it is at times a necessary evil. You can limit the security risk posed by Skype in one of two fairly straightforward ways. Both of these first involve completely uninstalling Skype from your computer. Then you can either: 1. Download Skype portable and install it to a USB drive. Plug in the USB when you need to run Skype and remove the USB when you are finished. Test this out a couple times, as Skype can be slow on older USB. Skype portable is available here: portableapps/apps/internet/skype_portable Or 2. You can sandbox Skype on your computer. A sandbox allows a program to run in virtual memory and prevents it from interacting in anyway with your system. First download and install Sandboxie: sandboxie/ Youll need to play with Sandboxie a bit to figure it out, but essentially you need to create a new sandbox into which you can install Skype. Download and install Skype into the sandbox. Run Skype. When you are done with Skype, you can exit the program and exit Sandboxie. All traces of Skype are gone. To load Skype again, run Sandboxie.
