I wrote this note inspired by an empty tooth paste(less) tube : I just began to brush my teeth staring at the reflection of my unshaven face in the bathroom mirror, when suddenly I saw thick blue colored smoke billowing from somewhere, quickly rising to form a hazy foreground to my reflection in the mirror. I panicked and looked at where the smoke was coming from. To my awe, I saw the smoke gushing out of the mouth of the CLOSE UP TOOTH PASTE tube lying on besides the tap in the sink. I lifted the tube in hand to have a closer look, as the smoke still bellowed in Copper Sulphate blue ! ‘What the hell…’ I murmured to myself and just then, out of the nozzle of the tube popped out something. I was taken aback and dropped the tube into the sink. The smoke was slowly subsiding and the little thing that popped out was getting more visible. It was looking like a tiny goblin in pretty colored clothes, with a sparkling head gear and a wand in hand ! I was about to say ‘ What the…’ when the tiny creature spoke. “Hello Sir ! I am the CLOSE UP genie !” “Close Up what ?!” I exclaimed ! “Yes Sir. I am the Close Up Genie. Thank you unleashing me !”. “ Now where were you and what did I do to unleash you ? “ I bellowed, not wanting to show off how nervous this two inch tall genie made me from within ! “Sir”, the genie clarified, “Every CLOSE UP pack comes bundled with a genie that is locked into the last molecule of the paste that’s in the tube”. “Okay….so ?” I said with a puzzled look. “There have been millions of genies that have been bundled into as many CLOSE UP tubes that have been coming out into the market over the years’, said the genie, ‘ but this is the first time a genie has finally got released’ . I was still puzzled. The genie could see my confused look and continued, “Sir, ever since tooth paste tubes came into being, this is the first time someone has COMPLETELY squeezed all the paste out of the tube till the last molecule ! Thank you sir and congratulations on this rare feat !” Now I understood – in my dogged determination to use the left over paste as long as it lasts I was fervently squeezing the paste out of the tube everyday while my family had migrated to the new tube more than a week ago. I was coming to terms with reality when the genie spoke again, ‘ I have to take leave in the next 60 seconds sir!” the genie said, ‘ but before I leave I want to grant you a wish !’ GRANT ME A WISH ! A wish to be granted and just 60 seconds to choose the right wish… my mind was working rapidly. I was thinking hard.. looking around.. almost half a minute gone. Still getting nowhere. My brain was processing the pros and cons of every possible wish that was coming to my mind. While the options were pouring in, I was suffering from agonies of indecision and finally I was drawing a blank. ‘ Sir, your wish please. I have to leave anytime now’ pleaded the genie. I looked at the genie and then looked besides it. On the other side of the sink was a fresh recently opened tube of Close Up Toothpaste. Instantly, a thought came as a flash. “ My wish is…” I started. ” Tell me, sir”, said the genie, “ I am waiting to grant it!”. “ My wish is… that I should be able to unleash the CLOSE UP GENIE from every Close Up Tube I ever use in rest of my life!” This gives me enough time to make my long list of wishes which the future genies I will be unleashing can grant me! ” Your wish is granted, sir!” the genie said, smiled, took a bow and vanished in thin air! And for the first time I smiled too…. The REAL Close Up Smile ! Moral of the Story : To make your customer respond to your product the way the models in your commercials respond upon using it, it is just not enough if you deliver a great product or service, these days you may have to add a genie that fulfills the customers desires ! CUSTOMER IS THE QUEEN...or for that matter, THE KING as well ! :-)
