I wrote this on a friends wall when she asked what we thought about California chromes owner saying all horses qualifying for Belmont should have to run at all three races to make it an even playing field for those triple crown contenders. I can easily see his side. But outside of the box....I think like this. I think the Belmont is just a race. Some people really dont want to run at that big of money with a tired horse. Business is business. Belmont isnt the triple crown. Buuuut I think that idea of his would be excellent for the sport. I think it would be awesome to see everyone race on the same playing field. Rules are rules though and I think that is why winning the triple crown is sooo awesome and prestigious. I think thats what makes a triple crown horse legendary. For Him to not only beat the best of the best but he beat them while he was exhausted with scarred lungs and on their best and fresh days. Just another way to think about it. Legendary horses are legendary because they win under extraordinary circumstances when the odds are against them NOT for him.....when they arent at their best and are STILL better than anyone else. The rule change would make things fair, yes, but victory is much sweeter when an underdog wins (despite his actual, literal odds) outperforming everyone that should have beat him easily!!!
