I wrote to our local Kettering MP Phillip Hollobone about our NHS concerns. To be fair he always replies to my communications. I include part of his reply: I doubt I shall support the Bill, because it peddles several myths: protect the NHS - the NHS is best protected by the present commitment to real terms increases in its budget protect the NHS from privatisation - the Health & Social Care Act specifically outlaws the profiteering by private health providers which took place under the last government exempt the NHS from the TTIP trade deal - the TTIP wont affect the NHS Let me return to the issue of TTIP. It is notable that the former EU Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht said this in a BBC interview: “Public services…there is no problem about exemption. The argument is abused in your country for political reasons but it has no grounds.” I think it is important that that has been said. Prime Minister David Cameron, House of Commons, 17/11/14. The NHS is run for people, not for profit and there is no competition-led race to the bottom; the NHS was recently declared to be one of the very best healthcare systems in the world; non-NHS providers have to abide by NHS terms and conditions; there’s no market free-for-all and the recent reorganisation has saved money which has been used to recruit more doctors, nurses and frontline staff and reduce administration; spending on the NHS has been increased in real terms since 2010 and is not flat-lining. What does everybody think?? I suggested that he watches Professor Allyson Pollocks YT presentation about the privatisation of the NHS https://youtube/watch?v=Cz5dl9fhj7o . I await his reply.
