IATC Fall Meeting Sunday, November 9, 2014 @ Ames High School Ames, Iowa President Marty Thomae called the meeting to order at 9:30. There were 24 members present, Jared Chizek (IHSAA), and IATO members. Marty welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming and giving of their time. Introductions were made. The agenda was examined and a motion was made and seconded to approve the agenda. Motion passed. The minutes were read and a motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes. Motion passed. Jared Chizek from the IHSAA was present to report on the fall cross country season. · Thought season went very well · Discussed the disqualification of a team from the state qualifying meet for practicing on the site. · Urged members to suggest sites for the state qualifying meets as they are getting hard to find. · Discussed other questions presented by members. Voting for state cross country official was done. Voting for Coach of the Year for cross country was done, 1 state and 5 at large for each class and each gender. The awards will be presented at the December banquet. Voting for Assistant Coach of the Year for cross country was done, 1 for each gender. This award will be presented at the December banquet. Voting for Jr. Hi. Cross country Coach of the Year was done. This award will be presented at the December banquet. Committee Reports Kirk S. reported on the CC All-State selections. They have been posted on the website and certificates are on the website for coaches to print off. Marty T. reported for Peggy M. on the Academic All-State awards. Peggy has uploaded a new certificate on the website and instructions are there for requirements and downloading the certificate. Marty T. reported for Mitch A. on the 25 Year Coaching Awards. He encouraged members to remind coaches to apply for this online as last year there were not very many. Kirk S. reported on the Mike Henderson Middle School Track Meet. Ames will be hosting the boys’ meet this next spring and will be providing workers. More discussion on the meets will be in New Business. Steve R. reported on the State Pentathlon meet. It will be the Tuesday after the state track meet. This will be the last year it will be in Washington. A new site needs to be found. Mike J. reported on the Hall of Fame committee. They have a very qualified bunch going in at the banquet. He urged members to send in nomination ideas. Mike J. reported for Dan D. on the Hall of Fame Banquet. It is still at the Gateway this year. Tickets are $24 in advance. They are still looking for ways to increase the attendance of coaches at the banquet. Marty T. reported for Greg T on the IATC Awards. Greg will get the names and get the plaques ready. The Joint CC Advisory Committee had not met yet. Marty will get the concerns sent in to him to a committee member to take to that meeting in December. The Joint Track and Field Advisory Committee will not meet until after the track season. Marty T. reported for Brian M. on the Track Power Ranking. Coaches need to put their teams’ complete meet results onto Quik Stats and it will automatically send into power rankings. Marty T. informed the group that Davis E. has been doing the Team CC Rankings since 1982. Davis is looking for some help. This will be discussed in New Business. Todd P. reported on the Individual CC Rankings. Things started kind of slow, but then got going and went fine. Things look good for next year depending on if some coaches get moved to another classification. Eric C. and Bill N. reported on the Washburn Middle School CC meet. Ankeny Centennial hosted the meet and things went very well. They had over 1100 finishers. We want them to host it again next year. Eric is going to make the entry procedure easier for next year. Dick W. reported on the Sr. All-Star CC Meet. Things went very well. They had a record number of runners in the open race. There was discussion on the way the regions were set up. A motion was made and seconded to divide the state into 2 regions (East/West) with I-35 being the dividing line and the Des Moines schools will be in the West region. Motion passed. Dick W. reported on the Sr. All-Star Track Meet. It will be the second Saturday in June and will be at the University of Dubuque. The timers are set and they are planning to invite some honorary coaches. Bill N. gave the treasurer’s report. A motion was made and seconded to approve the report. Motion passed. Bill N. gave a membership report. There were about 156 members (schools and individuals). This was about normal. Old Business Dick W. is still seeking individuals to take over the website. New Business A motion was made and seconded to add to the by-laws “If any coach knowingly or willingly violates participation rules, that coach will not be eligible for Coach of the Year award for that season”.
