IBA and World Bank Empowering Pakistani Women Entrepreneurs WomenX Entrepreneurship Program Karachi, September 12, 2014: The AMAN Center for Entrepreneurship Development (AMAN CED), IBA is collaborating with the World Bank & Enclude - a leading consultancy firm to initiate a women entrepreneurship development program-WomenX, exclusively for Pakistani women entrepreneurs. An orientation session for the program was held at IBA Main Campus on September 12, 2014. A World Bank funded global initiative, WomenX, is aimed at supporting women business owners through business education, networking and mentorship opportunities. Aman CED at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) is to conduct the business education part of this program in Pakistan. 12th September marked the beginning of an exciting entrepreneurial journey as the first cohort of 50 enterprising women entrepreneurs joined AMAN-IBA CED to go through the four-months of intensive business education training. The orientation ceremony was opened by Dr. Shahid Qureshi, Program Director, CED, who introduced the CED Faculty and the Enclude team to the participants. Addressing the attendees, Dr. Shahid Qureshi said that to be a successful entrepreneur, one doesn’t necessarily need specialized degrees, as an entrepreneurial mind is foremost for the success of any business. He emphasized that the program will be very relevant to the spirit of entrepreneurship, based on an in-depth study of case studies of successful businesses from around the globe. He said that IBA’s specialized faculty and a team of mentors will help train the participants in the different aspects of business intricacies. The program at a later stage will also entail group coaching, networking and one-on-one mentoring. It’ll help the participants to boost productivity & sales, enter new regional & international markets, identify profitable new opportunities, design effective marketing strategies and develop stronger support networks. At the end of the program, the participants will receive a certificate from IBAs AMAN CED, one of the top three entrepreneurship centers outside of the US. The attendees paid a subsidized rate of Rs. 10,000 for this one of a kind entrepreneurship program. This speaks volumes of IBA’s commitment towards serving the society’s educational needs. Welcoming the attendees, Registrar IBA, Capt. (Retd.) Ahmed Zaheer said it was an honour to welcome so many successful women business entrepreneurs, he said, ‘Women mean business, they do business and they do it well!’ He further said that women are very cost conscious and as this is what makes or breaks a business, thus women can be great entrepreneurs. In his words, Pakistanis are great entrepreneurs and ‘when you educate a woman, you educate a family’. The program has attracted women entrepreneurs from very diverse backgrounds, consisting of an exclusive furniture designer, a renowned cake artist, a small stitching business (owner from a village) etc. The stories and the ambition of all the women present were very aspiring and each of those confident women were an inspiration. And in their own words, the attendees had opted for this program to learn from one of the top business institutions of Pakistan. The orientation ended on a happy note with a cake cutting ceremony by the honourable Registrar and the faculty present. Program Highlights A 4-month certificate course with 14 days of in-class business education. Classes blend traditional coursework, experiential and hands-on exercises, all customized to meet the needs of Pakistani businesswomen.
