IBB Lays foundation of N20 billion housing project, praises Kwankwaso Former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida has praised the Kwankwaso administration in Kano state for embarking on projects that will stand the test of time and make life more meaningful for the citizenry. He noted that the administration of Kwankwaso has given birth not only to Kwankwasiyya city but also close to 1,500 houses under Amana and Bandirawo cities, as well as several roads and infrastructure that have upgraded the status of the ancient commercial city state. “These achievements are very laudable and worthy of emulation at all levels”, the former president stressed. Gen. Babangida who chaired the foundation laying ceremony of The Promenade, a multibillion housing project jointly undertaken by the government of Kano state and Urban Shelter Ltd., at Lokogoma district, Abuja, yesterday, (Monday), stated specifically that the housing project will go a long way in not only providing shelter, but indeed consolidate efforts in job creation and poverty alleviation. While congratulating the government of Kano state on its effort in the provision of housing infrastructure, the former president emphasized that real estate development effort should be sustained by both governments and the private sector in order to provide affordable shelter to Nigerians. He praised Urban Shelter Ltd, the company handling the project, for what he described as the immense economic and social values the developer is bringing to bear on the real estate sector in Nigeria, charging it to sustain quality, efficiency and integrity in the executing of the Promenade project. In his speech, the governor of Kano state, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso explained that the explained that the estate would be constructed at under PPP arrangement at the cost of N13 billion, adding that the value to be created by this amount is the sum of N20 billion. The Promenade, according to him, is second to the Durumi estate project, also handled by Urban Shelter Ltd, pointing out that the decision of the state government to engage in estate development was informed by the desire to diversify development, create more jobs for Nigerians and acquire revenue for the state government. Gov. Kwankwaso recalled that the land, on which the estate is to be constructed, is property of the state government that was almost forfeited but for the intervention of some well–meaning Nigerians, especially the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Muhammad. He therefore implored the company handling the project to be timely and diligent in doing the work as the state government has high hopes in it. The Chairman of Urban Shelter Ltd., Malam Ibrahim Aliyu disclosed that the estate would consist of 400 housing units, of 1-5 bedrooms, in 8 quadrants across 200, 000 m2 land, adding that the 9th quadrant will provide versatility in retail, work and recreation.
