IBF/AFRICA’S 14 YEARS OF CONTINUED GROWTH AND QUALITY SERVICES IS UNMATCHED BY ANY OTHER SANCTION BODY IN AFRICA From Onesmo Alfred Mcbride Ngowi, President, IBF/ Africa, July 20, 2014 Dear Boxing Stakeholders, African continent certainly has its fair share of challenges and not a professional boxing promotion goes by when we don’t have to deal with a unique and testing situation; but Africa continues to progress, continues to grow and continues to excite. This is truly, the last Frontier. As evidence of Africa’s continued and exciting journey we have had a great 14 years of seeing significant and accelerated promotional growth and more and more new promoters and boxers trusting the worlds global boxing top sanction body, the IBF to sanction their regional, international, Intercontinental and the world titles. Thank you for entrusting us with your valuable promotions and you have my continued commitment that we will always go the extra mile to exceed your expectations. Let me take you through a short recap of what we have been doing to provide you with the very best service levels leading solutions: Our Basic Principal “An Organization is only as good as its people” This is well-known organizational principal that IBF/Africa holds very dear to heart in its 14 years of existence and we builds on this foundation by ensuring that: Only Best People are assigned to our titles. Ring officials are closely matched to the titles, not just assigned to them and satisfy their interests. As much as possible, we limit the financial costs for promoters by assigning officials who are near to the venues and in many cases in their respective regions/countries. Stemming from this, the policy at IBF/Africa is: To provide the most competent solutions by only using the Best officials assigned to the work at hand. Staff / management Structure IBF/Africa utilizes a very flat management structure in order to be able to operate in a fast and flexible manner with our clients. All personnel, including the President, are directly available and respond to inquiries to clients at any time. Also, it is a well-known fact that smaller organizations are instinctively nimble so, we utilize this dynamic to bring higher levels of service and a far greater, more personal interaction with our clients. We practice staff empowerment as (in our organization at least): An Organization that does not empower its staff is limited to the vision and abilities of its managers. Whereas, An Organization that does empower its people is equal to the sum of the entire organization. Our Titles: So far this past 14 years, IBF/Africa has evolved by creating several regional and zonal titles to quench your desire for international recognition. We have rolled out a superior system to enable African boxers get international recognition by taking them through a manageable and sustainable Progression Path where a boxer win a title, defend it and advance to the next level. In the beginning, this system was not popular with some boxing promoters due to their desires to rush boxers from junior to the senior levels without first cultivating basic talents to take up senior roles in Africa and beyond. In respond to ever demanding interests to our titles, we setup IBF Continental Africa and IBF Africa, Middle East & Persian Gulf (IBF AM&PG) Titles to give equal opportunity to boxers from different parts of the greater Africa and Middle East. The results have been phenomenon as many promoters and boxers queue for the titles with great appreciation notes for our management capability! Boxers who win the IBF Continental Africa and IBF AM&PG Titles are required to defend them before they can be given opportunity to fight for the much senior titles the, “IBF International Titles”.............................!. Once a boxer win the IBF Continental Africa or IBF AM&PG Title and defend it successfully against a credible opponent (s), she/he would be considered for the IBF I/C Ratings. The rating however is the prerogative of the IBF Ratings Chairman to decide depending on the boxer’s record. The IBF I/C titles are available to boxers who are rated at I/C ratings therefore they guarantee a space at the IBF top 15 World Ratings respectively. Our Out of the Ring Programs We have initiated several outreach social programs that are intertwined with the IBF/Africas objectives and which keep us close with the communities around us. In that, we have managed to develop IBF/Africa into a vibrant boxing organization that cares and take the interests of the peoples around it. Therefore, we have established IBF/Africa Sports Tourism which derived from the Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb Expedition in 2011. The programs promotes African continent FIRST as the best destination markets and investments as it is our responsibility to promote this continent that is so potential to us and the sport of pro boxing in general. We have also initiated a program known as Peace, Stability, Love and Unity Boxing Tournament in Africa that would take place for the first time in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia this year. The program aims to promote peace and stability in African so that there would be a peaceful environment to promote boxing tournaments. The program seem to be very popular with African governments particularly along the River Nile and Great Lakes African region where the skirmishes and war of attrition has been brewing for decades. Furthermore, we are on the process to initiate IBF/African mentored training program in partnership with the Government of Tanzania to use the facility of the Sports Training College of Mallya in Mwanza region of Tanzania. The IBF/Africa mentored training program aim to train sport administrators, managers, ring officials and other professional boxing stakeholders so that Africa can build capacity as far as professional boxing is concern. The lack of qualified officials is great hindrance for the development of sports particularly pro boxing in Africa. Our Customers We have built up formidable relationships with: Boxers: - these are central and the target for our services. We have therefore setup a system that fully gives them international exposure and recognition for any title that they win. Progression Path: We call our approach to manage boxer’s career and enable them to fight from junior to senior titles “Progression Path”. We define it as follows: A long term strategic partnership that develop the boxers talents and profiles to focus on a dramatic improvement in their competitive boxing careers. Our method of “Progression Path” provides the best of both worlds – Junior/Senior titles and Sustainable careers. With our alliances and in-depth of resources with our parent organization the IBF/USBA, we maximize the support potential while minimizing the costs of advancing boxers careers. Promoters: We make sure that they get value for money services as far as their investment is concerned. Managers: We give their boxers opportunity for titles and ratings as much as we have been able to. Ring officials: We provide annual seminars/training at our parent organizations IBF/USBA annual conventions. Suffice to emphasize that IBF/Africa will continue to enforce the rules and regulations that governs professional boxing and in particular the Muhammad Alis Amendment Act as professional sport. I will continue to bring to you information that is pertinent to your requirements as we approach our 15th Anniversary next year July 29, 2015.
