ICC Issues a warrant of arrest for Journalist Walter Barasa The issuance of the warrant of arrest by ICC does not seem to be of any consequence the Journalist. Neither does the case at ICC is of any consequence to others who are already accused and are attending their hearings at the court. The above conclusion in based on the fact that all of them have blasted the court and its prosecutors openly in the local media. It may be that they have no case or the case is weak and that it will be thrown out from the evidence they have in their defense. However if one examines the ICC Court process, there is every reason to trade carefully on what we say in public about the Court and its officers. The most recent case is that of Barasa, while we as the public have no idea what evidence the prosecution has against him, he has come out strongly making all manner of accusation against the Prosecutor. The public is not the court, whatever justification you may have for or against the Court and the accusation, is better presented to the right forum to avoid poisoning the attitude of the Court towards the accused. The ICC Court is an institution established by the international community and it has its systems well structured. I am sure the system is convinced that our people have a case to answer. Let us trade carefully with its affairs. There is no guarantee that they are proceeding to hear cases for the sake of it. The conclusion of these cases may be like that of Charles Taylor. What will happen then? We will turn on ourselves and start the blame games that might cause more harm than good. Let us respect the ICC and pray that all shall be well at end of these proceedings for the accused and the affected victims.
