ICE Of South Florida Presents: “Advancing Your Knowledge in Medical Settings” This workshop will provide the basic concepts of medical terminology including common root derivations and prefixes and suffixes used in medical speak to help understand the general vocabulary without having to learn every medical term. Supplemental tables will be presented for future reference. General anatomy will be reviewed to illustrate the areas of the body involved. Mock doctor-patient interviews and examinations in various potential real-life scenarios commonly seen in an office or hospital setting will be practiced. And the complexities of communicating medical/legal issues including forms such as “informed consent”, “advanced directives”, and issues regarding federal HIPAA guidelines will be discussed. Dr. Grunspan will provide an explanation in English then we will practice Sight Translations. December 14th in Aventura, Florida 2825 NE 191st St. Aventura, FL 33180 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM $50 for RID Certified Interpreters $30 for non-RID Certified/Working Interpreters $15 for Interpreting students/Non-Working Interpreters and Deaf Attendees Working Interpreters and Interpreting Students will: • Recall and express different medical terms based on their roots, prefixes, and suffixes. • Practice and demonstrate a sight translation of the three medical/legal documents discussed under the supervision of interpreters. • Engage in interpreting role-play activities of doctor-patient interviews and exams.
