ICYMI: Today, Think Progress published an article about House Democratic efforts to force a floor vote on critical wildfire suppression funding as Republicans waste time on pointless bills to undermine the Endangered Species Act. From Think Progress: “With multiple fires burning in the West, and the U.S. Forest Service’s (USFS) wildfire budget expected to run dry in the coming days, House Democrats have launched an all-out effort to force an up-or-down vote on a bipartisan proposal that would provide wildland firefighters the resources they need to do their jobs.” There are 25 active fires in the West, federal agencies are running out of money to fight these fires, and yet not one Republican has signed the discharge petition to force a vote on stalled, bipartisan legislation that would treat catastrophic wildfires like similar major disasters such as floods and hurricanes and provide immediate funding. If just 22 of the 57 Republican co-sponsors of the legislation had joined Democrats, the vote could have happened before the 5 week congressional recess.
