IDENTITY CRISIS One of the challenging constraints of the LEADER – PROTÉGÉ relationship is the aftermath of servitude. Understanding the leadership style of a leader is as important as their GENDER. This is because, as much as your leadership style constitutes a huge percentage of your Decisions, your ATTESTATION OF FAITH doesn’t in any alter your leadership style. As a leader, whether you are autocratic, bureaucratic, servant leader, transformational, charismatic, diplomatic, etc, you must also understand the GENDER of your protégé. For WOMEN, no matter how strait their leadership style is, you would naturally feel this soft, gentle and compassionate character and most times try to be SOFT about what they should be STRICT with. (The typical woman) The problem with this is that their protégé’ even though could possibly have a different leadership style, would naturally and by reflex also REPLICATE the Gender traits of their leaders in themselves. When SPIRITUAL MOTHERS occupy leadership position and have spiritual sons, most times the Gender character begins to rub off on their sons. This is because Spiritual sons as much as they appreciate your leadership styles, they are also drawn to your GENDER character by reflex. This is a bit scary as you begin to see MEN approach situations as WOMEN, and this is worsened when Spiritual moms have a strong influence on them. The same goes for Spiritual daughters and Fathers. Protégés must also be very careful in choosing their leaders/ mentors. I must say that it is hard to swallow when you see MALE leaders in ministry approach situations as WOMEN, talk as WOMEN, and handle situation as WOMEN. This is not to say the women have disturbing characters, we understand the “Ministry of Women” but MEN must be careful when serving under SPIRITUAL MOTHERS as certain decisions impugn the character of a MAN.
