IDIOCY AND TANTRUMS OF POLITICIANS While reading a report on the peace brokered by the President to assuage the National Chairman of the PDP and Professor Jerry Gana led Convention Planning Committee. This news headline credited to Senator Nenadi Usman that her party, the PDP will rule for 60 years caught my attention. The first question is why 60 years, why not forever. To put a pegged date, is to say after such a time, Nigerians will be weary of PDP and then vote a different party. That is as far as her vision and conscious mind can see and conceive which may be right or wrong. This is however not the first time we are hearing of such claims. Audu Ogbeh former PDP National Chairman in the days of his power, says PDP will rule for 50 years, that was before he had to decamp to rival ACN and campaign without shame for the ACN to defeat the PDP, which was unsuccessful anyway at the National level. Atiku Abubakar, as running mate won 1999 and 2003 Presidential Election, in 2003 there was lots of hues and cries about the elections, but the results were sustained by the Supreme to the joy and admiration of Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, of course his Principal Obasanjo. In 2007 Atiku Abubakar was in Court with Buhari, who was also in 2003 after the Presidential election, to contest the return of Yar’adua by the National Chief Returning Officer. They complained of a flawed process. The Supreme Court sustained the results declared as valid. As part of the build-up for 2007 Presidential elections, Tunde Bakare, Founder of Latter Rain Assembly, and Naser el-Rufai erstwhile Minister of FCT, both declared: “Buhari not ordained to rule Nigeria again” and “Buhari is unelectable” respectively. In 2011, the former was running mate to Buhari while the latter was staunch supporter in another failed attempt to be elected President of Nigeria. By the body language of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the aggregation of strength of the opposition parties towards the one goal: unseating the PDP from Aso Rock. 2015 may be a different kind of election in our history.
