IDP Diary Dated 22 July 2014. Dear All, By the grace of Allah and your continued support, we managed to deliver a comprehensive relief package, which included (a) a gas stove, (b) water cooler, (c) tub with tub cup, (d) flour tub, (e) Tawa, (f) two cooking utensils, (g) cooking spoon, (h) 2 deep trays, (i) a floor mat, (j) clothes for one male one female and one child, (k) 5 kg sugar, (l) 3 kg rice, (m) 1.5 kg daal, (n) 1.5 kg lobiya, (o) 2 kg ghee, (p) tea, (q) roohafza, (r) large glucose packet, (s) 4 ORS, (t) nido milk powder, (u) Slippers (in few packets) (v) 500 pak rupees cash, to 250 families in Karak, Bannu and FR Bannu. In addition to the above we were able to provide Pak Rupees 30,000 to father of a young girl who needed post heart surgery care and medical attention and Rupees 10,000 to Principal of Bannu School No. 3 and 4 to provide medicine to the IDPs staying with them in the said schools. The Total cost of the above activity minus transportation cost and in kind donations was Pak Rupees 1,423,400/- or approximately Pak Rupees 5,693/- per package. This brings our charity work total for NWA IDPs to approximately Pak Rupees 3,000,000/- in less than a period of one month. We still have Pak Rupees 502,556/- in our account to continue with our work. We thank you all for your support and donations. We feel that we are citizens of one of the blessed nations of the world who stand up to the call of their fellow brethren in time of need. However, I would request you all for your continued support cause the task remains uphill and the sufferings and misery of our brethren remains unfathomable. OUR SHORT TERM ASSIGNMENT: Eid is just round the corner and we intend to distribute cooked food on Eid day along with Sweets in Karak and Bannu (preferably at the schools and colleges where the IDPs have taken temporary refuge. In addition to the massive Eid cooked food and sweets distribution we would try to give cloths and shoes to the maximum possible IDPs considering our limited resources. OUR LONG TERM ASSIGNMENT: (A) In our meetings with the IDPs we were informed of an education emergency lingering not only for the IDPs but also the residents of the Districts, which have accommodated their brethren especially Bannu. The schools in Bannu would resume on 1st September and yet the government have not given clear policy as to what to be done with the IDPs residing in these schools. Our interviews with the Principals of these schools indicate that the IDPs do not intend to vacate the schools if they are not able to return home by then and in case the government vacates the school buildings these IDPs will have nowhere to go since the ones residing in these schools are the ones which cannot afford accommodation and do not have anyone to stay with. We have identified two pronged approach to deal with this situation at least for some of the IDPs and schools in Bannu. (i) Accommodation There are huge empty spaces adjacent with few schools which comes within the jurisdiction of these schools. We plan to construct a bamboo tent village in those spaces with the permission of the schools for which we would also have to construct concrete walls where absent, so that the compound is secure. This will give secure accommodation to those residing in the schools without effecting the educational activity of the school itself. (ii) Education We intend to work with the school administration to facilitate them to run a school for the children of IDPs after the regular school timing is over. We intend to provide financial support to the schools for its additional administrative cost incurred by doing so. (B) We intend to start micro level businesses for male and female IDPs and provide running capital facilities for a short period so that these honourable Pakistanis can start earning their own bread and sustain their families. I hope you all would approve of our plans and contribute to play your role to support fellow Pakistanis in distraught and homelessness. Remember, this is an ongoing and difficult process and we plead you to spread this message as much as possible so that it could reach the maximum willing audience. Thank you for your kind and generous support. Regards, Admin
