IDQ20032 Bureau of Meteorology Queensland Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE WEATHER WARNING for DANGEROUS SURF For people in parts of the Southeast Coast Forecast District. Issued at 3:12 pm Thursday, 28 August 2014. Synoptic Situation: At 3 pm EST, a large, complex low lies off the eastern Australian coast. A small low within this complex is situated approximately 280 kilometres east of the Sunshine Coast and is expected to move to the northeast at about 25 km/h for the remainder of today. A high pressure system in the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the southeastern Australian coast. Dangerous surf conditions are expected to continue about the southern coast and Islands south of Sandy Cape during today, easing a little late this evening. As the small low off the Sunshine Coast moves further away, winds are gradually easing along the southern Queensland coast and damaging wind gusts are no longer expected. Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Wide Bay and Burnett district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Surf Life Saving Australia recommends that you stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas. * Check your property regularly for erosion or inundation by sea water, and if necessary raise goods and electrical items. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 9:15 pm.
