IDQ20038 Bureau of Meteorology Queensland Regional Office TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DESTRUCTIVE WIND, HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES For people in the LOGAN CITY, IPSWICH CITY, SCENIC RIM and parts of the BRISBANE CITY, GOLD COAST CITY, LOCKYER VALLEY and SOMERSET Council Areas. Issued at 7:17 pm Saturday, 23 November 2013. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 7:15 pm, very dangerous thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Laidley and Grandchester. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. Very dangerous thunderstorms are forecast to affect Rosewood, Hatton Vale and Marburg by 7:45 pm and Ipswich, Lake Manchester and Upper Brookfield by 8:15 pm. Other severe thunderstorms were located near Aratula, Rosevale and Maroon Dam. They are forecast to affect Boonah, the area between Boonah and Beaudesert and Peak Crossing by 7:45 pm and Beaudesert, Bundamba Lagoon and Greenbank by 8:15 pm. Destructive winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely. Pea to marble size hail has generally been observed from thunderstorms this afternoon. An 83 km/h wind gust was recorded at Warwick at 6:00pm. 37mm of rainfall has been recorded in 30 minutes at Franklyn Vale (south of Laidley) at 7:15pm. Emergency Management Queensland advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 8:20 pm. A more general severe thunderstorm warning is also current for the Southeast Coast and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 219. The Bureau and Emergency Management Queensland would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
