IESM maha rally: Centre in line of fire over OROP Bhopal, Jan 23 (UNI) The Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM) -- an all-India federation of ex-servicemens organisations and military veterans -- has urged all ex-servicemen to attend its maha rally on February 1 at New Delhis Jantar Mantar in support of one rank one pension (OROP). According to a leaflet issued in connection with the event, the Centre would be urged to issue the OROP implementation letter at the earliest. In the past six years, the IESM notched up certain achievements vis-a-vis its 40-year-old demand. The President, ministers, bureaucrats, judges, journalists and several other members of the public are in agreement over the need to grant OROP to ex-servicemen. The Government made a provision for OROP in the Budget and promised to earmark additional funds in the event of a shortfall, the leaflet said. Despite that, the Narendra Modi regime is yet to issue the implementation letter. The Defence Ministry is issuing various statements on daily basis thereby fuelling suspicion in ex-servicemens minds whether OROP would ever be implemented. Most of the ex-servicemen are aged and find it difficult to believe that OROP would see the light of day in their lifetime. The dress code at the maha rally would be uniform/mufti/civil dress plus regimental cap.
