IF NIGERIA IS CLEAN... Fine, but where is excellence? I am confused. Yes, because of the sore mentalities and the irrational attitudes of Mr Presidents unfair apologists. It is quite difficult the task of reading cheap insensibilities and obtuse insensitivities of full blown men without throwing them out. It is this penchance for mediocrity that is immobilizing this country. In the olden times, excellence was treasured more than financial success, sadly today, Nigerians celebrate mediocre, medio-crats, medio-cracy and mediocrity even in the open! In the home, it took routine religious and meek advocacies from my mother to my father for my dinner to change ownership in situations whereby tough academic assignments suffered even a minor breach. Do not blame my straight father, he did the best as conceived. Similarly, the tertiary institution where I was groomed frowns at imperfections. In fact, I almost died trying to impress my formators; story for tomorrow. Now that you have known the madness-framework for this outburst, kindly treat this piece with all honesty. Most times, I chew the the excesses, today, I shall spew them. Yesterday, Transperency International released the 2014 Corruption Perception Index (CPI) and in the brochure, this country is sitting unchallenged at 136th position and allegedly the 39th most corrupt state globally. This is no issue at all, after all, we have been ranked worse than the present release. The real issue is the deafening celebration of an obvious low by the lettered but senseless and highly disoriented sect stationed on the social places. It is a thing of shame to every Nigerian that African countries such as: Botswana ranked 31 with a score of 65 Namibia ranked 55 with a score of 48 Ghana ranked 61 with a score of 45 South Africa ranked 67 with a score of 43 Benin ranked ranked 80 with a score of 36 Nigeria ranked 136 with a score of 27! You are wrong, leave insurgency out of this (not an index neither, size too). The basis is directly rooted on public sector corrupt practices. Please note that Nigeria changed position from 144th globally in 2013 to 136th globally in 2014 a meaningless feat which the political touts, jobbers and enemies of the future are celebrating. The certification of a superficial analyst would read commendable too. However, there is no need for commendation looking critically at the stat. In the global CPI table, Nigeria actually moved eight (8) places to good health in ranking but her score remained 27 annually! If you ask me, there is no significant change. In fairness to some of us who are not well informed in the intricacies of the release, let me attempt a precise clarification of the main issues. According to Transparency International: The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be. A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). A country or territorys rank indicates its position relative to the other countries and territories in the index. Looking at the note, it is clear that Nigeria is actually unclean. She scored 27 which is a very close neighbour to 0 (Highly Corrupt). This questions the class of government and governance in place. Let me ask a few questions: What public role has this overrated government played in the fight against public sector driven corruption. I think, nothing. Baba Iyabo at least chased some people and remanded some in custody. Do not ask me about the Late Yaradua. He was a gentleman, demanding due process which time did not allow him get. What happened to the fuel subsidy scammers? What is happening in MDAs and the public service? People travel to the Americas and get paid their monthly salaries. Public servants visit their offices at will and leaves before noon. When last did the MDAs carry out an honest and publicised recruitment exercises? I remember the gory tales and vistas from the stadium-based examinations organized by tne Nigerian Immigration Service across the country. Your defence must be that Mr President is not incharge (correct on surface observation), then who is? His body language is enough to remove the tremors but for these sycophants. Alright, if you are presently unemployed or under-employed, trace your waterloo to the inactions of the present government against corruption. She has refused to see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil: this is to me the greatest form of inhumanity and insensitivity. According to my personal analysis, Nigeria is unclean because her government is unclean. I do not celebrate mediocrity rather I represent excellence. This country can improve her ranking and score, but the forces of political appeasement and inglorious perpetuity wont make way. I once wrote, fix only systemic corruption in this country and watch every sector stabilize. This would appear like a Karamchands philosophy until we find a good hand for the job. As at today, no presidential candidate is enough for my aspiration. If only I could find a replacement soon. My appeal to every Nigerian is to steer clear from public sector corruption. In variance with the maxim uneasy lies the head that wears the crown, this is a collective responsibility by the way. A good name is for Nigeria and a bad one is for Nigerians.
