IF YOU ARE A HELPING PROFESSIONAL WORKING IN DIRECT CARE WITH CLIENTS PLEASE STOP AND TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO COMPLETE THIS GREAT SURVEY..MY RESEARCH TEAM IS AMAZING AND IF WE ARE GOING TO DO THIS, WE WANT TO DO IT RIGHT! PLEASE HELP US REACH OUR GOAL OF 100 COMPLETED SURVEYS!!!! HELPING PROFESSIONALS are active members in the community who work with individuals, families, and social systems that have been faced with a number of traumatic events (i.e. Boston Marathon bombing, Sandy Hook School shooting, and the tragedy of 9/11). Events of this nature have happened throughout history, but over the past decade, more focus has been directed to the importance of understanding the impact of TRAUMA on the populations affected. RECENT TRENDS IN RESEARCH HAVE BEGUN TO EXAMINE THE DIFFERENT EFFECTS THAT WORKING WITH POPULATIONS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED TRAUMA CAN HAVE ON HELPING PROFESSIONALS. Helping professionals, professionals in direct contact with populations that have histories of trauma, are faced with occupational hazards such as burnout, secondary traumatic stress, compassion fatigue, and vicarious trauma. Research has found a link between the various different occupational hazards and a decrease in the quality of care for clients, lack of compassion satisfaction, a perceived decrease in quality of life and a high job turnover. A number of Research has suggested various prevention and intervention strategies; however, this study (OUR STUDY) is the FIRST of which to explore and assess a holistic approach to these strategies.
