IF YOU KNOW ANY DETROIT PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS, TELL THEM TO VOTE FOR STEVE CONN AND THE EON/BAMN SLATE IN THE RUNOFF DFT OFFICER ELECTIONS IF THEY WANT TO FIGHT AND WIN.-- Michael Elect Steve Conn and EON/BAMN in the DFT Runoff Elections! Detroit teachers are almost there! We are just one step away from regaining control of our union and being able to defend ourselves against all the attacks on our jobs and our schools, and make new gains! Ballots for runoff election for DFT President and officers will arrive at members homes soon and are due back by the January 17th vote count. We urge you not just to vote, but to campaign in your schools -- and on the phone at night -- for everyone you know to vote for the EON/BAMN candidates. This may be the most important election in the history of the DFT. The outcome will determine whether Detroit teachers even have a union in any meaningful sense of the word – at the very moment when the governor and state-appointed EM have promised a huge new offensive against us in the way of EAA expansion, DPS school closings, and cuts in pay and benefits. A vote for Steve Conn and EON/BAMN is really a vote to have a union once again. A vote for Keith Johnson’s hand-picked candidate Edna Reaves is a vote to let the State continue cutting our pay, our jobs, and our rights. Detroit teachers simply need to do what they know is right in this election and vote for EON/BAMN. What you do in the next few days really matters! The decision you make to vote for EON/BAMN, and campaign in your school, and join our movement, will have a very definite impact on your life as a teacher for many years to come -- as well as your students futures. By taking a stand, Detroit teachers will get total support from the people of Detroit, most especially our students and their families, who are tired of all the attacks on their schools and civil rights. United with the people of Detroit, we can win! The uprising in Ferguson has birthed a new youth-led civil rights movement that is sweeping the country, as black and Latino, and poor and oppressed of all races, have begun fighting back after many long, cold years of terrible give-backs and losses. With EON/BAMN leadership, Detroit teachers can play an important role in that new movement, and win huge new victories for ourselves and our students. A vote for EON/BAMN is a vote to restore pride and dignity in ourselves as teachers -- both on the job and in society generally. A vote for EON/BAMN is a vote for a real future for teachers and students in Detroit and America. We deserve all of this, and it is now within our grasp. Vote EON/BAMN in the DFT Officers Runoff!! Steve Conn for President Myra Akpabio, April Chambers, and Derrick Marable, for Vice President Ucal P. Finley for Treasurer Erika M. Jones for Recording Secretary Defend public education! No more school closings! No more charters! Restore tenure and seniority! The DFT must act like a union again and fight proudly and aggressively for step increases, pay raises, smaller class sizes, and an end to the scapegoating and mistreatment of teachers! No more EMs -- Jack Martin out now! Build the New Civil Rights Movement reignited by the courageous struggle of the young people in Ferguson! Fight for Dr. Kings vision for America!
