IF YOU LEGALLY ADOPTED OR RESCUED A DOG.... paper trail, attempted to find owner, etc. Then someone shows up claiming its their dog. You ask for photos and vet records. Dog has never been to vet. Dog had ONE single vaccine in its first year of life. Does not even have rabies vaccine, which is a LEGAL requirement. Owner threatens to just show up and get dog -- to which you (read I) reply I dont think so; you are NOT coming to our property Owner threatens a police report (which I actually welcome)... At this point, do you even want to ATTEMPT to see if the dog belongs to the person when youre the legal caretaker for it and the dog has never been to a vet? This is such a struggle because when a dog leaves our program to an adopter (and any dog leaving, even if it was going back to an owner, would be an adoption), it has to be going to a home with a history of basic veterinary care. This is the 2nd time this has happened to us. Last time ended up pretty decent. But I asked this owner to provide photos and vet records -- but there are no vet records. I dont want to talk to them again because I dont appreciate being threatened and am not going to continue in a conversation like that. So the police can handle it and we will provide the documentation that shows we are operating within the law in having ownership of the dog. Gotta love this stuff...
