IF YOU LIVE IN BIRSTALL PLEASE READ Charnwood borough council have proposed a 1500 home development next to Bentley Roses on the A46. We have to stop this development as Birstall will almost be connected with Rothley and another green field area of separation would have disappeared placing Birstalls identity at risk. But there are other issues at hand, a few months ago I sat in front of Leicestershire County Council Education Panel with a petition for a school in Hallam Fields. The panel stated that come 2015 there will not be enough primary school places in Birstall, so adding 1500 houses is not going to help the situation especially if a situation like the promised Hallam Fields primary school arises, and promises to provide a school are not kept. Another concern is the traffic. Speaking to a number of residents on the Greengate estate it can take them between 20-30 minutes to get from their drive way to the main A6 road during rush hour. I have been working with the County Council highways department to get the signals changed on the A6, Greengate lane and Sibson Road to increase the flow of traffic, but every day there are queues from Red Hill Roundabout to the main junction on Loughborough Road. Again1500 houses will bring at least 1500 more cars, adding to our already congested traffic in the village. The by pass that comes with the development would make Wanlip and Wanlip Lane a rat run for traffic by avoiding the A6,again losing green fields separating villages to a new road. I have knocked on every door in Wanlip and everyone I have spoken to is against the housing development. Action needs to be taken sooner rather than later to protect Birstall from further development. Because of this I have set up an online petition on change.org, there are many shops and pubs in the village who are supporting the campaign and where you can sign the petition. (See below). We have to stop the Conservatives ran council from taking away our village, we need to protect what we have in the village and stop this overdevelopment. Shops and pubs where you can sign the petition are as follows The White Horse Age Concern The Posy Bowl Loros Birstall Fisheries Dans Gents Hairdressers Birstall Post office Silly Prices Peter Astill & Co Solicitors The Plough Link to change.org link chn.ge/1vjiXOD?recruiter=83855775 If there are any other local shops who wish to have a petition and help protect Birstall please do not hesitate to contact me on 07741277199.
