IF YOU LOVE AMERICAN BULLDOGS...~SHERIFF~ IS YOUR GUY! ** Needs to be fattened up! Save him, and spoil him rotten! ** A volunteer writes: Sheriff came to us with two of his deputees, mini Boxers Macho Man and Princess. They were found abandoned together, their captors having fled the premises....Sheriff is wary and untrusting looking in his kennel although at times, he comes to his door, makes sweet eyes at me and licks the palm of my hand. Sheriff was leashed without effort and we aimed for the yard. My first task was to bring him to most dogs favorite spot:the feeding station...liver treats, roast beef and the like. Sheriff had already smelled the coveted area from far away. He rushed toward it but listened when I asked him to stop and to sit which he did ...at once. Sheriff took the treats from my fingers rather decently for a hungry boy and I think that after he gulped down a sizable amount of healthy goodies, I had become Sheriffs new best friend. We did a few laps through the yard, ate a few more treats and back walking. I definitively made a good impression on Sheriff who sat at my feet for caresses, licking at times my hands coated with tasty scents. We met a few large dogs, males and females, quite up-close and Sheriff seems rather fine with them, which surprised me for an American Bulldog. Sheriff is pretty run down, overly thin like Macho Man and Princess but also very poorly cared for and shabby. That was my first look at Sheriff and I do have a soft spot for him although I can imagine that a life of poor treatment has not made of him a posh pet....Well, I can only hope that the stars will shine bright on my friend and land him a safe home and a caring master.
