IF YOU READ ANYTHING I WRITE, READ THIS Tonight at TD North, the Sports Museum will honor my pop, the great Eddie Andelman. One of the most successful and best sportscasters of all-time, Chris Berman, insisted on introducing him. Chris once said something along these lines: “Eddie Andelman is like Sacajawea. He pioneered a whole new territory for all of us.” This is true. Before my dad, sports talk show hosts did straight sports. He introduced a whole new genre: Why are there no onions at the concessions stands, and such disgusting bathrooms at Fenway Park? The Patriots guards are awful, let’s call Buckingham Palace. My wife, the Fabulous Judi, is going to kill me, because I watched the Celtics last night in my underwear eating Kowloon instead of taking her to the theater. There are too many ties in hockey; each team should have a designated archer to settle a draw. He’s so creative and brilliant, when it came to issues like casinos or labor contracts or stadium financing, no one could possibly keep up with him. He was decades before his time. Almost every day, someone tells me that Eddie helped or entertained them. He comes from humble beginnings in Dorchester. Extraordinary talent and effort led to phenomenal success in broadcasting, business, family, and philanthropy, making him one in a million, maybe one in one hundred million. Anyone who says different is filled with hate or jealousy or just trying to draw attention to themselves. My family works, creates, and builds and Eddie made it clear that was the way it was going to be. If you like Phantom Gourmet or anything my brothers and I do, thank Eddie Andelman. He’s a true original, and there just aren’t many of those around anymore. I’m proud of you, pop. Do you think they’ll have pigs in a blanket during cocktail hour?
