IFP: LEADERS MUST FULFILL THEIR ELECTION PROMISES The IFP calls on leaders especially, Municipal Mayors to fulfil the promises they made during the elections that communities will get service delivery in the form of toilets and electricity if they voted for their political parties in the recent national general elections. During elections Mtubatuba Mayor, Robert Ntuli, promised residents of Mfekayi, Ophondweni and kwaShikishela that they will get electricity but nothing has happened till today. The enthusiasm political rhetoric that leaders usually display during campaigning periods change when politicians get into power and elections are over. Many politicians who are elected disappear after elections only to re-appear on the next campaign trail. They seem to be very able and caring to serve when campaigning but look dead when they enjoy power, said IFP National Chairperson, Mr Blessed Gwala. Surprisingly such failed leaders are not shameful enough to stop lying again as they repeat same promises to win other elections. Politicians might dispute this truth; but KwaZulu-Natal residents are silently questioning if some of leaders can do anything new, when they failed to accomplish their mandate previously. Failure to honour promises begets loss of trust, support and honour. South Africans cannot be forced to keep believing that the same leaders who failed them in the past still need more chances when those very same leaders selfishly enriched themselves instead of serving our people as expected, continued Mr Gwala. Leaders don’t have to serve themselves. Leaders must serve the people who voted them into power. People vote for a leader to represent them, to listen to their plight and to respond to their needs. We call on the Mtubatuba Mayor to provide people with electricity and water as per his promise. If he fails to do so he must vacate his position as mayor because he has proven that he is incapable of leading that municipality and that he has misled the community, concluded Mr Gwala. The IFP wants to reiterate its commitment to regain control of Mtubatuba municipality as the people of Mtubatuba are saying that the only party that can deliver services and fulfil their hopes and dreams is the IFP.
