IGALA THEODICY: WITCHCRAFT (OCHU) AND SELFISHNESS (INACHA) The Igala tribe is among the great iron-ore technology states that rose to power between 1400 and 1700 AD, alongside with the Benin, Nupe and Oyo Empires. Presently they form the vast majority of Kogi State, in Middlebelt Nigeria. Since the 1515-1516 controversial war with Oba Esigie of Benin Empire,the Igala people have enjoyed peace from both internal and external enemies. Peace without a concomitant measure of prosperity. Igala land is blessed with vast fertile & strategic rivers/streams connections, industrious children & rich cultural values. Yet, it lacks the technical knowledge to transfom these values to meet modern day developmental challenges e.g. Poverty & stavation. Our current understanding of, & fear of witchcraft has a direct influence on Igala land. The Ochu phenomenon as it is currently understood & practiced is very real & has a devastating effect on the society & psychic of the Igala people. It works against development. The consequence of this understanding is that every calamity is attributed to witches. This is not a miscoception. People cannot invest & develop Igala land for fear of what the witches have done or would inflict on them. In this context, The fear of witches is the begining of wisdom. This maxim is a defect & defeat on the psychic of the Igala people & no nation can progress with this kind of mentality. Likewise to Inacha (selfishnes), has eaten deep in to the blood of some Igala sons & daughters which is one of the major problems behind the backwardness of Igala nation. Today even if an Igala person see a position that suits his brother or sister looking for a job he will not like to help the person because he dont want the person to be more than him/her. Another problem with the above is that those looking for the job at times if helped by the Igala brothers/sisters in getting the job they will turn out to become their helpers worst enemy at the works place. *HOW LONG WOULD THIS CONTINUE? *HOW LONG WILL YOU CONTINUE TO BE AFRAID TO HELP YOUR BROTHER? *HOW LONG WILL YOU CONTINUE TO TURN YOUR HELPERS WORST ENEMY? *HOW LONG WILL YOU CONTINUE TO BE AFRAID OF THE WITCHCRAFT (OCHU) AND SELFISHNESS (INACHA)? Just HOW LONG???
