IGNORANCE? OR GREED? - Nigeria ...and then it all started, everybody both the illiterate and literate, young and old jubilated... Songs were sung, music played also in the remote areas, even the blind could precisely pin point & describe what was in the air... We all celebrated it, believing this thing was & would ever be the best thing to have been allowed to take its root in Africa. We all printed banners, we were full of joy, we called it a new dawn. We even oppressed those who couldnt join the moving train. We ran faster than they could ever have imagined.. those of us who made the trip for the quest to know new things gave ourselves names & titles, we use slangs like you neva see this kind thing? Ahhhh...you dey dull Oo.., infact youre sitting on a loooooong thing And then, we moved on.. and on.. and on...till we got here and not there. What a pity... Little did we know we travelled far away from GOLDEN VIRTUES. We, by ourselves set ablaze treasures money cannot buy. Treasures gathered with volume of sweat that could be compared to the volume of a river. We allowed ourselves to be carried away with sweet talks & by objects? ... WE TRADED PRECAUTION FOR CORRECTION ...we now have preference for scars on skin to smooth skin. Yet, we thought we were moving from slavery to freedom, difficulty to ease, hardness to entire softness. We all rambunctiously shouted ...Things Have Changed! But wait, have they really changed? Of course yeah, things have changed for the worse. I dont expect everyone to share same thought as mine. Some would say- guy comot, you still wan remain for year 1816? Abi you think sey na 1960 we still dey ni? ...guy wake up! ...funny enough & of a truth, I really woke up to rethink and then came up the underlisted questions: -what have we exchanged our respect for elders for? -what has happened to our conscience? -when did we start taking lacassera and gala daily? Yet we complain of diabetes, cancer and all kinds of killer diseases. -how many parents today counsel their children? -where are the clergymen who preached the truth unconditionally? -what killed our moral sense for fashion? -why do we prefer the noise in the beats to the lyrics thereof? -when did we start suspecting our next neighbour to be a suicide bomber? -how come we now have unemployable graduates? -where are those creative activities children of old engaged in? Are they now the Up gunners & Blues for life they shout everywhere today? -what happened to our oil refineries and all our export trades? -when will our industries regain their pride? -how much money & technicality is needed to make our power (light) stable as of old? How long shall we wait? -when did we start living less than a dollar per day? -that true feredalism that was practised in those days, where is it? -are we truly giant of Africa? Is it in population, potential or performance? -where are our music artists in the order of Fela, Obey, Osadebe etc? -where is our Okocha & Rashidi of those days? Is it the Mikel & Ameobi of today? -where are the likes of Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe, Tafawa Balewa in our today Nigeria? -where is our rice plantation? Yet we import rice, even with this great human resources? ...YET, SOME BELIEVE WE NOW HAVE A BETTER NIGERIA -what has made our naira lost its self-esteem? It cant stand beside even some African currency without a bow. -when did our judiciary start dishing out injustice, even after many years of unnecessary time wasting? -when did a nigerian become synonymous to corruption? -Are our ambassadors to foreign nations really active in the midst of all the sad happenings on nigerians over there? -when did our pastors & shepherds become celebrities and so materialistic that they flaunt every earthly item they newly got on facebook, instagram, twitter etc and then type- You Aint Seen Anything Yet. God Is Good! -when did we start getting used to nudity on TV? Yet we complain of high rate of rape cases, and molestation of our girls. -when did we start going to churches as though we are going for bachelors eve & beauty pageants? and then we say God is much more concerned about our hearts? -why we not learnt from all kinds of diseases that is caused by Can Foods? Have you forgotten that our parents ate fresh food from the gardens? -why have we all deserted farming and all we want is that suit and grammar jobs? -why have our government also impoverished our farmers that they too leave the professions and chase after buses to end up in tragic traffics? ...STILL, SOME SAY NIGERIA IS BETTER NOW -what is the reason & the meaning of special center for conducting examination? -why is JAMB and WAEC always complaining of mass failure & drastic fall in our educational system? Are our teachers motivated? -why do we rise early and rest late? No attention for the children. Our children can no longer understands our languages- all they say is yoorrr, whats up, as in etc... -when did bombing become a stone play in the crowd? And kidnapping become the hide & seek game of old? ...YET, WE PRAY & FAST FOR THE NATION. . . . But I remember... -There was a Nigeria that protected her citizens. -There was a Nigeria that all the citizens had good will for one another. -There was a Nigeria that elders teach the young. They open their consciousness with proverbs. (How many proverbs do you know today?) -There was a Nigeria that we were always proud of. -There was a Naira that the US dollar would say Yes Sir to. . . . BUT This Is The Nigeria Of Today. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM??? (A) Nigerians? (B) Democracy Or Military? (C) Leadership Or Followership? (D) Ignorance? WHAT IS THE SOLUTION??? (A) Continued Prayers? (B) Patriotism? (C) Revolution? (D) Division? I leave it to you. Decide Nigeria, Decide You! ...GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!
