IGP Wants Suspected Rapist DPO Flown To Abuja By MATTHEW DIKE — April 22, 2014 An authoritative source at the state police command headquarters, Ikeja area of Lagos State has revealed that the inspector general of police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar has ordered that the embattled divisional police officer of Onikan police station who was accused of raping a woman suspect in his office, should be flown to Abuja for thorough discreet investigation. The source disclosed to LEADERSHIP that the DPO, Mr Adekunle Awe would be flown to Abuja today, where the case would be properly investigated. The source said the state command has received a signal ordering the Lagos State commissioner of police, Mr Umar Manko to hand over the case file and suspect to police officers in Abuja. Awe was said to have raped a woman, Idowu Akinwunmi, 31, after detaining her and five others for allowing a man to sleep in a restaurant till dawn. The owner of the eatery went to the station on April 15 tocomplain about the incident. Awe was said to have been arrested with two police inspectors and detained at the state command headquarters, Ikeja.
