IHEDIOHA: A MAN OF THE MOMENT The political gymnastics of Nigeria has gathered momentum, very tensed a scenario with the players at a feat they know how best to manage. Oh! What a beauty, a harvest of intellectualism and the great controversial spices to life? The Tambuwal’s saga on a serious note becomes a milestone in the history of Nigerian democracy just as the emergence and status of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as an arch opponent and rival to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is another twist to the political evolutionary process of the largest most populous black nation in the world. APC, the offspring of circumstance as controversial as it seems, as injurious and inimical as it portends to some; as distracting and detracting as her activities may be, on an objective note, has been defined as an orchestration of the entrenchment of democracy in Nigeria and the readiness of her citizens to accept variety as the spice of life. The APC’s hydra-headed and frantic onslaught, though treated with a sore glove, remains an attestation of the psychological resolve to accept the heterogeneity of our dear country and to combat the inherent differences to a halt while charting a way for ontological national philosophy- unification for strength. As it is customary, many reformers hardly realize what they are doing until the deed had been done and perhaps, the end had been reached. APC as the major opposition party, has started a revolution, the end of which they know not what. Nigeria is at a crossroads of her democratic evolution. Should President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan be re elected for a second term? Should the PDP maintain their supremacy and continue to be in power or should she give in to the pressures of APC and relinquish power? Should the North clinch power or should they be prevented for now? Why did Tambuwal defect to the main opposition party at this critical period of the electioneering process? Should he be impeached and who should commence the process? Most of these questions and many more, are the headaches of one man and as such, his responsibilities. Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, is the man of the moment. Yes, to ensure the supremacy of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, the protection of the House, the Presidency and indeed the equitable distribution of power and stability of our dear country, Nigeria. What a Herculean task? Nigeria, PDP and President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan must progress and somebody must pay. Chief Ihedioha must sacrifice his boy, who though scuttling, lies in the abattoir screaming to his ‘former allies’, “please save me and my new found Party, do not have a hand in our death”. Indeed, uneasy lays the head that wears the crown. Nearer home, some never took Chief Ihedioha’s ‘Team Imo Project 2015’ seriously until he purchased his Party’s expression of interest and nomination forms ahead of his 2015 Imo State Governorship ambition as well as his recent garnering of over 80% of the delegates in the recently concluded PDP Ward Adhoc Delegate Congress thereby making him almost a consensus candidate come November 29. What a feat? Though not unusual of him. As it is expected, bad losers and the disgruntled will always put up a fight otherwise, why would Senator Chris ND Anyanwu lead an assault of character assassination, negative propaganda and blackmail while some other top contenders threaten fire and brimstone? In all modesty, I consider all these attempts, an orchestrated plan to impugn the integrity of the Party which every discerning mind would readily view as anti-party activities. The times indeed are critical, Imo Project 2015 is a go and indeed somebody must wither the storm. Somebody must pacify the disenchanted; galvanize the local chapters of PDP in readiness for a smooth takeover of the reins of power come 29th of May, 2015. Chief Emeka Ihedioha who is today, the leader of the party and the major pillar of the party in the state has all it takes to build the bridge of confidence and commitment for the project at hand. The importance of these times in the history of Imo State and indeed Nigeria cannot be overemphasized as the Pride of Imo PDP must make thin2gs happen so that his name shall be written in gold in the sands of time. Endowed with wisdom and an intellect that dumbfounds, he shall not only live up to expectations but pave way for great positive changes for the Igbo race. More power to his elbow as he navigates aright.
