IHEDIOHA MY KIND OF GOVERNOR Written By Mobi Ekwe. So much sacrifice was made by Nigeria and Nigerians for many years before winning the war against military dictatorship and its fascist stranglehold on the Nigerian society and her citizenry. The price paid to obtain our nascent democracy was so high that it will be too unfair for any ruler to replay the military type of governance in the present democratic regime in Nigeria today. Imo State is unfortunate today to experience democratic militarism going by the way and manner by which the people are being governed. Imo people will, therefore, hive a sigh of relief if they are blessed, as they fervently pray to God daily, with someone endowed with meek of human kindness. It is not enough to provide infrastructure to the people, even as the kind we witness in Imo State presently is “Taiwan infested infrastructure.” What about other segments of the state economy? It is unfortunate that some Imo people are blindfolded by what they see as infrastructural development but do not concern themselves with what happens to the rest segments of the economy of Imo State. If what we hear about high debt profile of Imo State to the tune of over N130 billion is true, then the state is in for another debt debacle. The fifth line of the first stanza of the Nigerian national anthem states thus: “The labour of our heroes past shall never be in vain.” It is, therefore, highly disheartening for those who were not there when nor did they know how our heroes laboured to build our state economy, to mount the throne and begin to destroy the legacies left behind by our past heroes. Granted that our political sage late Sam Onunaka Mbakwe borrowed some loans with which he massively developed the old Imo State and so left a huge debt burden behind, but he had a well planned economy that guaranteed adequate return on investment, from the numerous industries he evenly sited across the state, through which the loans would have easily been paid back, had the military allowed his second tenure to subsist. This is why it beats one’s imagination to note that Concorde Hotel, Owerri, the five star pear east of the Niger, which Mbakwe laboured to build, is today under lock and key and non functional, It is only under the present civilian administration in Imo State that Concorde Hotel has become so comatose since it was built and opened in 1983. Today in Imo State, is there any single industry you can point at and say that here is where Imo State money is pumped into? All we see is “Taiwan development” all over the state. This goes with lack of planning and no due process, which have left the various sectors of the economy haphazard and uncoordinated. it is on this note that Imo people have to shine their eyes as 2015 presents yet another opportunity to chose who will govern them well without any pretence to govern well. Right Honourable Emeka Ihedioha is ‘my kind of Governor’ whose character and political truck record of achievements stand out distinctly to fit into this choice of the right person to govern Imo State well and clear the mess to which the state has been put presently. He has got the experience from both the executive and the legislature to navigate the ship of this state to a safe shore His detractors might not agree to this, which is not unusual! in human nature, just: as Jesus once remarked that ‘a. prophet is never welcomed in his home: This remark was in apparent reference to His being unacceptable in His home town Jerusalem, Nevertheless the choice is for Imo people to chose and chose right so as to extricate the state from perpetual political bondage and economic penury. Imo people’s choice will not be a forced choice as so many governorship aspirants have presented themselves to be chosen by the people. All Imolites need to do is to open their eyes widely to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff by scrutinizing the character and credentials of those who have presented themselves for governance. Why is lhedioha “my kind of Governor”? It is because he has the economic acumen, character, experience, education, expertise and influence to attract local and foreign investors to Imo State, who will bring their financial resources to match the human capital which the good people of Imo State have in abundance. The greatest resource of Japan is her people, culture and tradition for peace, excellence and hard work. We have all these attributes in Imo State. All we need is someone who has the capacity to harness these God-given resources for the general good of the good people of hue State, The cap, therefore succinctly fits the Right Honourable Chukwuemeka Nkem Ihedioha. Ihedioha has been tried and tested and found to be a trusted administrator with vast experience. He is humility personified and the fear of God is his guide. He is a highly respectful and truthful personality, a team player per excellence. He is a promise keeper with the rule of law as his guide. He is an apostle of good governance. A few of his achievements in the area of infrastructure worth mentioning here are: Dualization of Owerri-Elele Road; lsinweke-Ihitte Uboma-Okigwe Road; Okpala lgwurita Road; Mbaise Ring Road: Rehabilitation of Owerri-Umuahia Road; Rehabilitation of Owerri-Okigwe Road; Constructor of Ahiara Round About with spurs; Power Substations; Rehabilitation/construction of schools, health centers, etc; Multi-purpose youth development center at Nguru Mbaise; Integrated waste recycling plant at Ilile , Ohaji; Construction of Jetty at Okpala (Imo River); Extension of lifeline to Radio Nigeria, Heartland FM Station, Owerri, including the construction of the stations assess road. All these and many more are to the credit of Emeka Ihedioha. He has been able to attract these through his sagacity in political positioning in Nigeria. He also has religiously sited these infrastructural projects with even spread across Imo State. He does not stop with the award of the contracts but follows the contractors bumper to bumper in order to ensure good quality job and prompt delivery. He equally ensures that the contractors get their payments as at when due. If Ihedioha can do all these not as a Governor, what happens when he becomes the governor of Imo State with the State resources in his kitty. This is why I have identified him as “my kind of Governor,” It is now, therefore left for you and I in Imo State to make the good works of this God-given great son of Imo manifest in our State by offering him to serve us as the next Governor. In a very sincere and humble rumination, Ihedioha states thus: “Together, we will reclaim Imo from dictatorship and deceit and transform it into a Culture of Excellence and dignity in Statecraft!”
