IM Property Market Sustainability? Look at the people around you who are at the age of 20-35, how many of them are still looking out to own a property that they can call home? Malaysia, as a young nation, it is undeniable that the demand for housing in IM is high. With rural-urban natural migration and the abundant job opportunities around IM and also Singapore, population in IM is expected to grow at a rapid rate. There are much talks about property oversupply, ever since the deep-pocket Chinese developers carpet-bombed the market by introducing mega residential developments that amount to thousands of residential units. Is it true that IM is heading towards a precarious situation of property oversupply? Well, it is anybody’s guess as of now. 30 years ago, a family can live in a landed property comfortably with only SINGLE source of income. 15 years ago, a family can live in a landed property comfortably with DOUBLE source of income. The world today, as we know it, a family may not be able to live in an apartment comfortably EVEN with DOUBLE source of income. With housing demand still going strong in IM, are we seeing the shrinking of liveable area for the younger generations in the future (much like what has been experienced in Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur)?
