IMAAM MAALIK(part six) THE MADIINAN FIQH One of the greatest contributions Imaam Maalik made was the codification of the Madiinan Fiqh.Madiinah was the center where all branches of Islaamic learning were by great scholars and dedicated persons who who had learnt the science of the Quraan,the Hadiith and the principles of jurisprudence from the prophet and his companions.The companions having all departed one after another,the famous Taabiii scholars were still living in Madiinah in the time of Imaam Maalik.There were seven outstanding Taabiiin who have become central figures in Fiqh and Hadiith,and all quetions of law were generally refered to them?.Two such names are Sulaimaan and Saliim bin Abdullah.Sulaimaan was a slave of Maimuunah,the mother of muslims and wife of the prophet and Saliim was the grandson of Umar and was taught by his father Abdullah Ibn Umar.These taabiiin constituted the consultative body to which all shariia questions were refered.The Madiinan Fiqh that Imaam Maalik codified was the outcome of the exercise of these pious Taabiiin based on the authority of the opinions of the sahaabah and the prophet.Imaam Maalik died on 11th Rabiial-Awal,in the year 179A.H.at the age of 86 years,and was buried in Jannat al-Baqii in Madiinah.
