IMAM AHMAD BIN HAMBAL (R.H) AND HIS MUSNAD Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Hambal El -Sheybani (r.h) is the founder of Hambali madh’hab and he is the imam of that madhab. He is an eminent hadith scholar, a famous mujtahid and a mufassir at the same time. He was raised by his mother, since his father was passed while he was three years old, and he began acquiring ilim while he was very young. For education, he went Kofe, Basra, Makka-i Mukarrame, Madina-i Munavvara, Yemen, Damascus and Horosan. He went many centers of ilim and he came back to Bagdat. He encountered many difficulties while he was traveling. He used to carry his books and most of his notebooks in his bag. When a person who saw how many hadith he memorized and how much notes he took told him, “You learned this many hadith. At the same time you are imam of the Muslims and their alim. You are still traveling between Kufe, Basra frequently! How long are you going to continue like this ?”, he answered “with ink pot and pen until the grave (I die).” He died on Friday on the twelfth month of Rabi’ul Awwal. His kabr-i sharif (grave) is Baghdat at the location called Bab-i Harb. There was a very big crowd for his janaza (funeral) Two hundred thirty years after his death, when a grave was being dug for Sharif Abu Cafer, it was seen that his kafan (shroud) was still intact and did not change. His most famous book was Musnad. In Musnad, the hadiths narrated by sahabi was collected. First priority was given to the hadiths narrated by Ashara-i Mubashara. He began his book first by the hadith narrated by Hadrat Abu Bakr and he called this Musnad-i Abu Bakr. Then, he put the hadith narrated by the eminent of the Ashab, then he put the hadith narrated by women sahabi and he put the undefined narrations last. In Musnad, there are forty thousand hadith narrated by seven hundred Sahabe. He selected these hadith among seven hundred thousand hadith. Rahimehullah.
