IMMEDIATE ACTION NEEDED: HOW TO HELP #UKRAINE! Congressional Update... Monday, December 8, 2014 Dear Friends of Ukraine! The Ukrainian National Information Service (UNIS) @UNISdirect is closely monitoring the Ukraine-related bills in the U.S. Congress. Following numerous meetings on Capitol Hill, it is abundantly clear that support exists for Ukraine. To expedite the process, our collective voice, however, must be expressed to Members of Congress and Senators. Only a few legislative days remain before the 113th Congress comes to a close. Your immediate advocacy of S2828 and HR5782 is needed. Each of the respective bills is currently being reviewed. Additional co-sponsors for the bills will improve our chances of passage in the House of Representatives and Senate, respectively. In review, 1) HR5782, the Ukraine Freedom Support Act, was introduced by Rep. Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus. Last week, the NDAA passed the House of Representatives in a vote of 300-119. This is a significant event for Ukraine as the bill includes provisions for Ukraine. Passage of the NDAA would authorize $1 billion for the European Reassurance Initiative (ERI), including $75 million for programs, activities, and assistance to support Ukraine.
