IMO PDP AND THE GAINS OF A PRESIDENTIAL VISIT There is hardly anyone in Imo State who is not excited about the visit of our President to the State today. To majority of Imolites, the President is not coming to campaign, because he does not need any campaign to win Imo State or any of the Southeastern States. His popularity in the State is not tied to the sentiment of his Igbo connections neither is it tied to any form of parochialism, the President is widely popular in Imo State because of Imos record as the most academically advanced State in the country. We do not need to be preached to before we support Jonathan, because we are enlightened enough to see and feel the difference Mr. Jonathan has brought to bear in the Nigerian system. Today, even if an Imo son stands against Jonathan in the Presidential race, Imolites will still vote overwhelmingly for the President, because we are comfortable with his transformational drive. The people who will gain most from the Presidents visit to the State are the members of the PDP in the State, and the candidates to various positions whose campaigns will get a serious boost after the Presidents visit to the State. The chief among these gainers will be whoever the Party finally recognizes as its governorship candidate in the State, I do not have much doubts that person will be Emeka Ihedioha. Apart from The Man Ken Ojiri, who has defected to the Accord Party from where he intends to pursue his governorship ambition, the other twenty six governorship aspirants are expected to be at the Dan Anyiam stadium with their supporters to welcome the President and formally flag off the PDPs campaign in the State, and this will go a long way in boosting the chances of the Party returning to Douglas House come February 28th. The PDP in the State is expected to seize the opportunity of the Presidents visit to ensure that its members are all brought together for the common purpose of winning the upcoming elections. The only way the unpopular choice of Hon Emeka Ihedioha as the Partys governorship candidate will stand the chance of defeating the very deceptive Rochas Okorocha candidature is with the collective efforts of all the Partys members, including all the aggrieved aspirants. I do not know what the I.D Nwoga Reconciliation Committee is doing, but I am sure that the clearest picture into the level of reconciliation within the Party in Imo State will appear today at the Presidential rally. The best scene for the Party in the State, would be seeing Senator Ifeanyi Ararume watch as the Partys flag is being handed over to Emeka Ihedioha or Emeka Ihedioha watching as the Partys flag is handed over to Ararume. I will expect the photographers to captures the very contours of other aspirants visages as this flag handing ritual is performed. Whatever their visages tell you, is what the immediate future and electoral prospects of the PDP in the State will look like. IMO GA ADI MMA OZO!
