IMPACT OF DIS-ORIENTATION ON BOYDS OODA LOOP Its not a loop, as much as a spiral. When your #schema, action, and environment are related, you have “implicit control” (you got the flow). When your schema and environment are mismatched, you are DIS-Oriented. And this means that it takes “explicit control” to try and process the source of the cognitive dissonance. That takes longer. So in this diagram, Ive represented the loop as a spiral (think coiled-cable—a phone for the old folks). When your schema needs to be rewritten on the fly, it takes you longer to complete the Orient phase. Everything else pretty much stays the same. Like rifling in a barrel or the thread count on a bolt, the loops dont get ‘bigger’… they take a longer time to complete. #OODA #schemaiseverything #OODAoops #disorient #ebfas
