IMPORTANT - DEA Defunding Amemdment TAKE ACTION NOW Alerts are being sent out by just about every marijuana organization you could think of that the vote on the DEA defunding amendment in the Senate is imminent. There were all kinds of doubts about whether sponsors could even be found, but Senators Rand Paul (R-KY) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) have teamed up to put a bi-partisan face on the amendment. This country certainly seems to be on a roll towards easing if not downright ending our marijuana prohibition laws. Just the other day regulators at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are conducting an analysis at the Drug Enforcement Administration’s request (YES the DEA asked for it) on whether the U.S. should downgrade the classification of marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug. Seems like even the DEA is beginning to get the picture. Having this amendment pass the Senate will insure that not only the DEA, but every cop and law enforcement agency will get the picture that the days of marijuana prohibition are numbered. That is why we must do everything we can to get it passed. The Brownie Mary Democratic had a meeting in Riverside with Senator Boxer’s office on Wed. June 11 that went well. On Monday, June 23, I am attending a meeting with the BMDC in Los Angeles at the offices of Senator Diane Feinstein. We are meeting with her State Director, so they are taking us seriously – that’s what forming a club within the California Democratic Party gets you. It is more than critical – it is imperative that every supporter of mmj and mj law reform takes a couple minutes to call AND send an email to the offices of Senators Boxer and Feinstein. Please please please take a few minutes RIGHT NOW and call and email their offices. Aside from making a substantial campaign donation, calling their offices is absolutely the most effective way of influencing their decision on how to vote on any issue. Here are their phone numbers. The vote is more than imminent – it is hot on the table and could come up for a vote at anytime. Senator Feinstein Los Angeles office - (310) 914-7300 Senator Boxer’s Riverside office - (951) 684-4849 Senator’s Boxer’s office allows you to leave a message so you can call anytime but Senator Feinstein’s office does not accept voice mails so you will have to call when her office is open. Tell whoever answers the phone that you want the Senator to support the Rand/Booker amendment to stop the DEA from conducting raids in medical marijuana states. That’s all you have to say – won’t take more than 15 seconds, but if you want to add a bit more verbiage, feel free to do so. To send an email to both Senator’s offices, go to CALNORML’s website canorml.org and click on the link at the top of the page to send your Senators a supportive email. There is an easy form to fill out and with just one click you can send both of them an email. This is the most transformative piece of legislation before the U.S. Congress since marijuana prohibition was enacted in 1937. Please take the 2 or 3 minutes to make those two phone calls and send those two emails. You will be glad you did and if it passes, you will be really glad you did. --
