IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO FRIENDS AND FANS from Doc Neeson A big thank you to my friends and fans who supported my Benefit Concert at the Enmore in May. Your wonderful support is very much appreciated. I had originally tried writing letters of personal thanks to all of you who so generously gave their time and talent that night. Unfortunately I didn’t realise the debilitating effects chemotherapy would have on me and as a result I have not been able to contact most of you personally. This has been a source of great disappointment and embarrassment to me but please don’t interpret this delay as being any indication of my lack of gratitude to you all. I’m sure everyone who attended that night will agree it was one of the best rock ‘n’ roll line-ups ever seen in Sydney – even in Australia. In fact for many people it is now considered a legendary concert. It certainly is for me. Something exciting has happened very recently which I want to share with you. I am regaining energy through the massive amount of support coming to me from so many of you and also from some alternative treatments I have been having to boost my energy levels and re-build my immune system. Right now I am directing as much energy as I can towards the vitally important issue of fracking in Australia. Fracking is the extremely destructive but little publicised process by which coal seam gas is extracted from the Earth, and I can assure you this new form of mining leaves destruction in its wake wherever it happens. And it’s happening now, in many places across Australia, and the world. Some of my music industry friends will be aware that I am a Patron of the Aussies Against Fracking movement and I would like to thank all those who recently participated in the concert in The Gaslands of Queensland to raise awareness of the terribly destructive practice of fracking. On a broader scale miners are entitled by law to enter properties anywhere they can gain access whether we like it or not, whether it is our property or not. Mining corporations are permitted to carry out coal seam gas mining operations anywhere the Government has granted leases to them, which is usually done on the quiet. This is why most of us don’t know of the travesty that’s now occurring. Yes, that’s right, The Government has literally sold out the land from under our feet and WE are the ones who are going to pay a price that will far outweigh the temporary injection of seemingly large dirty funds into our economy. We must all be vigilant and make sure we “LOCK THE GATE” against the dangerous operations of these greedy and unscrupulous mining companies. These foreign mining corporations come into Australia, ravage our land and export their profits overseas, leaving a massive set of problems behind for us to deal with. Problems that can mostly never be fixed. Already The Condamine in Queensland, one of Australia’s largest and best known rivers has been ruined by fracking. Today it is bubbling with toxic gases, including methane, which have been forced up to the surface by fracking operations. These gases sometimes spontaneously catch fire, polluting our air and burning our land. And everything in this river is either sick or dying. I bet you’re as surprised and horrified as I was to hear this. Australia’s rivers, farmlands and population are under threat from fracking right now. Coal seam gas mining is contaminating the water table and our food supply. It’s happening in the part of Queensland where the largest amount of Australian food is grown – our “national food bowl”. At night the mining companies are known to let the toxic water drain out of their huge concealed “holding ponds”, into the paddocks where our crops are grown. These holding ponds are filled up with the toxic waste water which comes from the chemicals used in the fracking process. It then goes onto the land where our food is growing. How is this not a crime? We must stand together and fight against this. Whether we are healthy or not, many of us will soon become very ill and some may even die if we don’t stop coal seam gas mining now. Fracking creates poisonous water and releases poisonous gases that cause rashes, respiratory problems, nose bleeds that don’t stop, and even cancer. These are facts that the mining companies and their shareholders are trying to keep out of the news. Fracking will also destroy The Great Barrier Reef if Aussies don’t stand up and demand that the mining leases are revoked, because coal seam gas mining is happening now underneath the reef. This won’t just kill all the marine life it will wipe billions of dollars in tourism from Australia’s income, and this will affect us all. So please join me and SAY NO NOW, before it’s too late. LOCK THE GATE and LOCK OUT FRACKING! Please spread this message to everyone you know and do it now. Thank you in advance for your help. Cheers Doc
