From Dean Turney - Equestrian Sport Council TODAY IS ELECTION DAY IN WELLINGTON. 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Incumbents Anne Gerwig and Howard Coates are facing two challengers who are embarrassingly unqualified and who have made a concerted effort to avoid voter forums including that of the Equestrian Council. One of the forums the challengers (Matt Kurit and Sharon Lascola) did attend was for a group that claims to represent landowners in the Equestrian Preserve. The leaders of this group actively OPPOSED the Special Use Permit for this years Global Dressage Festival! At this and other forums the challengers have shown and admitted ignorance of the Equestrian Overlay Zoning District or knowledge of the Equestrian Preserve and have not attended equestrian events. But there has been a few hundred-thousand dollars funneled through a Tallahassee super PAC that has been used to inundate voters with mailers, phone calls and other solicitations in support of these two. Anne and Howard are honest and dedicated public servants who have helped prevent special interests from totally dominating Village Hall. When it comes to equestrian issues, please consider this. If not for Anne and Howard we would not have the GDF venue. Neither of their challengers had even visited the GDF venue.
