IMPORTANT UPDATE FROM FEMA TO TRIBAL LEADERS! Dear Tribal Leaders, As the 2013 Hurricane Season draws near, we want to reinforce our strong partnership with you and your dedicated tribal public safety and emergency managers. As you know, an effective response to any disaster depends on unified and coordinated teamwork. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) remain committed to working with you to further enhance your tribe’s emergency response capabilities. FEMA invites you to join FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate on a conference call on June 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. EDT, to discuss ways in which FEMA and tribes can continue our collaborative efforts in ensuring all levels of government and individuals are engaged in preparing for the upcoming hurricane season. We’ll discuss the 2013 hurricane season outlook, preparedness efforts, and recent amendments to the Stafford Act as it relates to tribal governments. There will be time towards the end of the discussion to discuss your questions and concerns. To participate in this event, please RSVP by e-mailing your name, position, and tribe to [email protected] by June 14, 2013. Call-in information will be provided upon receipt of your e-mail. DHS and FEMA are only part of the emergency management team. That team includes federal, state, local, tribal and territorial partners, the private sector, non-profit and faith-based groups, tribal organizations and most importantly, the general public. Thank you for your support and continued partnership, and we look forward to your participation in this important event. If you have any questions, please contact FEMA’s Intergovernmental Affairs Division at (202) 646-3444 or at [email protected]. FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.
