IN 20,000 BC, IF THE SEA LEVEL WAS 300 FEET LOWER THAN IT IS TODAY, the PERSIAN GULF at the smallest point at the Strait of Hormuz, would have only been 8 miles wide (red line), the same distance as from San Francisco to Oakland, California. even swimmable....on a warm day...it is now 13 miles from the northern shore of Djibouti (Arabian Peninsula) to the Iranian shore. what is now an island just south of the Iranian shore would have been a 400 ft. hill on the point above the water. it is now an island 100 ft.above the water at its tallest point.
